Spicy Pumpkin-Nut Bread

Ingredients
2-1/2 cups sifted enriched flour
1 Tbsp. baking powder 
1 tsp. salt 
2 tsp. cinnamon 
1 tsp. ground cloves 
1/2 tsp. mace 
1/2 tsp. soda 
1 cup chopped pecans 
1/2 cup shortening 
1 cup brown sugar 
2 eggs 
1 cup buttermilk or sour milk 
3/4 cup mashed cooked pumpkin

Directions
Sift together flour, baking powder, salt, spices and soda.
Mix in pecans.
Cream together shortening and sugar until light and fluffy.
Add eggs and beat well. 
Combine buttermilk (or sour milk) and pumpkin. 
Add to creamed mixture alternately with flour mixture. 
Turn batter into well greased loaf pan. 
Bake in moderate oven (350 degrees) for 1 hour and 15 minutes.

Makes 1 loaf
