French Bread

Ingredients
Savory Spreads:
Cream 1/2 to 3/4 cup of butter or margarine with one of these:
Generous pinch of dried marjoram, thyme, or savory
1/2 cup crumbled bleu cheese plus 2 Tbsp. snipped chives
2 Tbsp. prepared mustard
1 tsp poppy, celery, or caraway seeds
Minced garlic plus snipped parsley
2 cups grated sharp cheddar cheese
generous dash of curry powder
herbs de Provence
fines herbs
Italian seasoning



Directions
Pre-heat oven to 375°.
Slash loaf into thin, thick, or diagonal slices, ALMOST thru to the bottom crust.
If desired, rub cut clove of garlic over the crust.
Spread cut surfaces with one of the Savory Spreads.
Bake 15 to 20 minutes.
