4 cups Rice Krispies
4 cups Cocoa Pebbles or Cocoa Krispies
4-oz
toffee bits (
SKOR* if you can get them; home-made if you can't; NEVER Heath Bits O'Brickle!!!)
1/2 bag Reese's Peanut Butter Chips or 5-oz peanut butter
1 lb. bag of Kraft Marshmallows (must be fresh!!)
5 TBS. butter (NOT margarine)
*When I first made these, Hershey still sold Skor Toffee Bits in 8-oz bags. They were the key ingredient in Uncle Dave's Husky Treats, and when they stopped selling them in stores I started making my own
toffee bits.
In September of 2008, I discovered on the internet that they still sell Skor Toffee Bits in 3-lb bags from
hometownfavorites.com. I bought 6 lbs for about $40 including shipping, which when you do the math is a bargain. When they arrived, I immediately opened the bag, grabbed some and tossed them into my mouth. It was like greeting a long lost friend!
Store toffee bits at 65°F or below (but not frozen) in an airtight container.
In a bag or other container, mix together everything but the marshmallows and the butter. Set aside. In a large, microwave dish, melt the butter, about 1 1/2 minutes. Add marshmallows, tossing generously so that they are well coated with the melted butter. Microwave for about 2 minutes, 40 seconds or until marshmallows have nearly doubled in volume.
Stir dry ingredients into marshmallows, mixing thoroughly. Spread evenly into a baking dish or onto a cookie sheet, either of which should be well coated with butter. Coat your hands with butter and smooth out the top of the Husky Treats. Allow to cool and then cut them up and serve. NEVER use margarine or generic "crisped rice". You can use marshmallows other than Kraft, but they will taste different.
Makes about 64 1" squares (not nearly enough!)
