Transform your weeknight dinner with this classic Chinese-inspired beef and peppers stir-fry. Tender strips of sirloin or round steak are sautéed with crisp green peppers, sweet onions, and optional mushrooms in a savory brown sauce enhanced with soy. This quick 20-minute meal delivers authentic Asian flavors with simple pantry ingredients. Serve over steaming rice for a homemade take-out experience that's fresher and more flavorful than delivery.

Ingredients
one small onion cut in strips
2 T. oil
1 1/2 1bs. of round or sirloin steak, cut into strips
1 T. MSG* (optional and probably not needed)
salt
pepper

soy sauce
2 T. cornstarch
1/2 c. water
2 T. brown gravy sauce.
If desired one small can mushrooms, drained
1 c. of green peppers cut into strips

Directions
Sauté onion in oil.
Add 1 1/2 1bs. of round or sirloin steak, cut into strips.
Brown and cook 15 minutes.
Add MSG*, salt, pepper and soy sauce to taste.
Add thickening made with cornstarch and water, more if too thick.
Add brown gravy sauce.
If desired, add one small can mushrooms, drained.
Five minutes before serving, add 1 c. of green peppers cut into strips.
Serve with rice.
*MSG has fallen out of favor since this recipe was written and is probably unnecessary.

Serves 4-5 as a main dish.
