This homemade French Onion Dip Mix lets you create the beloved classic appetizer without artificial ingredients or excessive salt. A flavorful blend of beef bouillon, dried onions, and complementary seasonings creates that irresistible savory depth that pairs perfectly with chips or fresh vegetables. Make a batch to keep on hand for last-minute entertaining or customize the base ingredients to control the intensity of flavor—a versatile pantry staple for the homemade snack enthusiast.

Ingredients
1 ½ Tbsp beef bouillon powder, regular or no-salt💡
2 Tbsp dried minced onions
1 ½ tsp onion powder
¼ tsp freshly ground black pepper
½ tsp sugar
1 tsp dried parsley

⚠️DO NOT ADD SALT! Beef bouillon powder has a lot of salt.
💡If you use a no-salt powder, add about ½ teaspoon salt, and then later, if you need to, add salt to taste to the finished dip.
Makes about 4 ½ Tablespoons of mix
 
For the dip:
sour cream, mayo, yogurt, or a combination.
Directions
DRY MIX:
To make the dry mix, combine the above ingredients.
The dry mix can be stored in an airtight container for up to 2 months.
 
TO MAKE THE DIP:
Use 4 ½ TBSP of mix for 2 ⅔ Cups of the wet ingredients(divide between chosen ingredients)*
Use 3 ½ TBSP for 2 Cups of the wet ingredients(divide between chosen ingredients)
You should leave the dip in the fridge for at least an hour or so to let the dried onions absorb moisture and soften up.
* The original recipe called for a cup of each to 4 ½ TBSP, but that leaves it tasting very strong and salty.
 
MAKE IT YOUR OWN:
Add 1 TBSP of dill and/or other herbs, or maybe your favorite taco seasonings to make a fiesta dip.
 
Serve finished dip with vegetables or chips! It's great with either one!
