1/2 lb raw medium shrimp, peeled and deveined (41/50 size)❓
1 small onion
1 cup frozen peas
1 1/2 cups uncooked jasmine rice
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 tsp grated fresh ginger
2 cups water
1/4 cup soy sauce
2 Tbsp brown sugar
❓41/50 that the original recipe calls for are very small shrimp! I think this is an error in the original recipe. Anyway, use whatever size you like.
If your shrimp is frozen, thaw it first by placing in a colander and running cool water over it until thawed (this only takes a few minutes).
Finely dice the onion and place it in the bottom of the rice cooker along with the frozen peas (no need to thaw them).
Add the uncooked rice, minced garlic, and grated ginger.
Stir these ingredients together.
Add the shrimp to the top of the rice mixture, then pour in 2 cups water.
Close the lid and set the cooker to the "white rice" setting on the rice cooker.
On Instant Pot, use the "Rice" setting or follow the Instant Pot's instructions on how to cook rice.
The rice cooker or Instant Pot will begin to heat and once the contents inside reach the appropriate temperature, it will begin to count down the cooking time.
Once the rice is finished, let it rest for an additional 5-10 minutes on the keep warm cycle before opening the lid.
While waiting, stir together the soy sauce and brown sugar.
Finally, open the lid and pour the soy sauce mixture over the rice.
Use a fork to gently fold the sauce into the rice.
Serve hot, with sriracha or sliced green onions if desired.

💬 Uncle Dave says...
As I noted in the ingredients, 41/50 are pretty small shrimp, so use whatever size you want.
I saw a comment elsewhere that using thawed shrimp made the shrimp too tough, but again, this may also be due to size. Anyway, this person tried again without thawing the shrimp and it came out fine.
You might want to use raw peeled, deveined, tail-on shrimp for the best results.
In any case, serve the shrimp with no shell or just the tail.
Nothing is less fun than having to peel shrimp at the dinner table.
