This classic Apple Crisp combines tender baked apples with a buttery crumb topping for the perfect balance of fruit and streusel in every bite. The simple preparation features thinly sliced cooking apples tossed with sugar and a hint of lemon juice, then topped with a brown sugar-cinnamon-butter mixture that bakes to golden perfection. Serve warm as is or with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
Ingredients
7 or 8 large cooking apples 1/4 c. granulated sugar 1/2 c. butter 1/4 t. salt 1 c. flour 1 c. light brown sugar 1 t. cinnamon 1 t. lemon juice or less
Directions
Peel, core and slice apples into a 8" square pan. Layer about 1" deep.
Sprinkle apples with sugar and lemon juice, mixing lightly with fork.
Combine flour, sugar, butter, salt and cinnamon in a bowl and cut it with a knife or pastry blender to make fine crumbly mixture.
Sprinkle over apples.
Bake at 375° for 30 - 45 minutes until apples are tender.
